In pursuit of a return and attention to the tradition of Iranian story writing and formation of climate literature, numerous intertextual references to folk literature can be observed in contemporary Persian novels, especially in the novel "Kelidar". These references serve various functions, such as highlighting the characters' identities, and displaying their physical, psychological, and biographical characteristics. The main objective of this research is also to investigate Doulat-Abadi's perspective on language and folk literature, and the role of this literature in evaluating the characters and characterizations in the novel "Kelidar" based on a descriptive-analytical method. The research results indicate that Doulat-Abadi has paid more attention to language and folk literature to overcome the invasion of Western culture and to demonstrate the idea that "we are also folks". In the novel Kelidar, the allegories and proverbs demonstrate the abilities, knowledge, desires, and necessities of the characters, as well as the way in which they approach folk poems, indicating their extroverted or introverted nature. Explicit and implicit intertextual references to folk narratives have influenced both the physical and psychological portrayal of the characters and emblematically highlighted the relationship between the lord and vassal walks of life. Through stories, folk poems, and proverbs, Doulat-Abadi has, in fact, depicted the inner world, desires, and necessities of the characters, thus influencing readers' evaluations of characters by evoking feelings of empathy or antipathy.
