Abstract

Text. Social semiotics is a branch of semiotics that examines institutions and signs in the context of society and culture. Collection of Leily, which is considered as one of the most important lyrical works of Persian literature, tells a story of Arab tribal culture and system. In this research, which examines the social semiotics of Majnoon character, the authors try to study the moral and behavioral characteristics of Majnoon in the cultural and situational context of the Arab society by examining the signifiers and signifierd. Leily and Majnoon poem is analyzed from a semiotic point of view and from a social point of view, and it is divided into categories in which the semiotic effects are its evidence. Majnoon is a social and cultural personality; therefore, the processing of his personality requires attention to the role of culture. This character has special and unique characteristics from a social point of view and it is basically a conflict of madness and social abnormality. Majnoon's encounter with various phenomena such as death or certain habits such as eating and his lifestyle in general creates special characteristics and the social dimension of the hero's character in different stories can always be influenced by the culture of a society.
